Renting a mobile sauna for the first time? Here's exactly what to expect.
Before the booking: the inquiry
Operator needs: date, location (driveway/backyard/retreat property), group size, use case (relaxation/post-workout/event/retreat). They quote a package + take a 50% deposit to hold the date.
Typical residential session: 2-3 hours, 4-6 people, $200-$450.
Booking
50% non-refundable deposit, balance 7 days before. Cancellation: 14+ days = full refund minus deposit; 7-14 days = 50%; under 7 days = no refund.
You'll sign a liability waiver before the session — standard for wellness rentals.
Day-of prep
Operator confirms 24-48 hours before. Your prep:
- Clear setup space — flat ground, 12x16 ft for trailer + plunge.
- Confirm vehicle access (driveway width, gate height).
- Provide water + electrical access if requested (some units need both).
- Have towels + flip-flops ready (some operators provide; ask).
- No food / alcohol immediately before — heat + dehydration interact poorly.
Setup
Operator arrives 60-90 minutes before session start. Unit comes to temperature (180-200°F internal). They set up:
- Stabilizes trailer
- Heats sauna
- Sets up cold plunge if part of package
- Stages towels + dipper
- Ambient music / lighting if package includes
Orientation (5-10 min)
Operator walks you through:
- Temperature + how to add water (löyly)
- Breathing technique
- How long to stay in (15-20 min rounds)
- Cold plunge protocol (if applicable)
- Hydration reminders
- Health contraindications (pregnant, heart conditions, certain meds)
During the session
Operator typically leaves and returns at end. (Some offer "attended" sessions — extra cost.) Standard rotation:
- 15-20 min in sauna
- 2-3 min cold plunge / cool down
- 10-15 min rest + hydrate
- Repeat 2-3 times
Teardown
Operator returns at agreed time (usually 2-3 hours after start). Teardown 30-45 min. Ash + water cleared. Site left clean.
